“He wrote a song and sang it
until he wrote a poem to speak it.
He wrote a story to read it
and he’s writing it all to share it.”
First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to get to know me. So much has changed in the last year. I’ve spent the last few years adjusting to ending one job and starting a whole new career. For almost 10 years, I was a primary teacher. I spent most of my days focusing on the needs of the students until I found them saying more and more that I needed to write the stories that I shared in class down. So I did and the universe paved the way for me from there.
I live in Sydney, Australia with my partner, Joel, who is my biggest supporter and has helped build a foundation for me to be able to write comfortably. After resigning from teaching, I became a member of a local writing group and a member of the board at St Marys Area Community and Development where helped organise publications, radio shows and public readings with ArtWest and the local community. I currently work with Likemind, Penrith to speak about Mental Health and Domestic Violence in relations to my own personal experiences.
In October 2018, I self-published a book called He Was A Boy Who Smiled: Phoenix Rising about the struggled I faced as a child growing up in a home suffering from Domestic Violence. Not only has this book helped me through my own mental health journey but I have had the pleasure of speaking to many readers who have connected with story whether they have experienced Domestic Violence themselves. I never dreamed that within a year I’d self-publish its sequel, He Was A Boy Who Smiled: Phoenix Falling.
I’ve also started what I call Inkbooks, which are a collection of poetry, under the heading: We Need To Talk About This. These poems each present their own themes relating to Equal Rights, Domestic Violence, Mental Illness and more developing. I created these in hopes to start and continue a discussion on areas that have a stigma around them that don’t make them as publicly discussed as they should be. It is my hope that not only will these writings connect with those living with these aspects of their lives but with those who want a better understanding about what a person goes through.
I’m also releasing self-published short stories.
So, what am I doing now? (Updated October 2019) I’ve currently finished Silver, a fantasy novel beginning my The Realms series. I am working on reaching out to literary agents to represent me and my work. I am also working on the third book to He Was A Boy Who Smiled series and a few other fantasy novels I’ve been working on throughout my writing career.
I’m also enjoying my life with Joel as we continue to build from the ground up a house full of love and acceptance. We enjoy having a coffee together, playing games and obsessing over whatever series we’re into on TV.
Thank you so much for all your support. Check out My Little Shop for all the inks!
